About this Website

The Guelph Public Library's first website was built in-house in 1999, with the help of federal and provincial financial assistance. A prominent "Local History and Genealogy" section of the site allowed customers to easily access a wealth of information about Guelph, including a unique online collection of photographs from the Guelph Public Library Archives. This site also included a section just for GPL Kids.

A second version of the website was created in 2002, and featured easy access to our online public access catalogue.

Public Access Catalogue

A third version of the website was designed in 2008 to celebrate 125 years of the Guelph Public Library.

2008 Website

Between January and December of 2012, a grant from the Government of Ontario's Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Cultural Strategic Investment Fund) enabled the Guelph Public Library to hire co-op students to assist with website work, train staff members, launch multiple social media initiatives, and design a brand new website to fit the needs of a growing multicultural community.

In the future, The Guelph Public Library is hoping to add the following features to the current site:

  • More audio-visual content
  • Digital access to archival items
  • Online fine payments
