Library Renovations - FURTHER UPDATE
Work on the the Main Branch Library at 100 Norfolk Street has now begun.
We will be undergoing renovations to our front walkway and front doorway. The repair work is anticipated to take six weeks, weather permitting.

The main door to the Library will be closed for the entire duration of the construction. A temporary door and ramp will be installed at the corner of the building next to the walkway. The door and ramp will be wheelchair accessible. The regular book drop will be unavailable during the construction period however a temporary book drop has been installed in the temporary door.

UPDATE - November 30/09 - The exit from our parking lot to Norfolk Street will be excavated over the next few days. Every effort will be made to limit the impact of this construction on library visitors. However, pedestrians may find that they will have to access the building via the parking lot or Oxford street.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Main Branch Library at 519-824-6220.

Battery Recycling now available at all Library Branches and City Hall
Residents can now drop off used batteries for free at Guelph libraries and City Hall

GUELPH, ON, August 30, 2010 – There are seven new locations across the city where residents can drop off their used batteries for free recycling, starting today. All six Guelph Public Library branches and City Hall have bins in place to collect single use, rechargeable, button cell, 9V and lithium batteries for recycling. "Making responsible disposal of used batteries even easier to access will encourage greater participation in this recycling program" said Heather Connell, the City's Program Development Supervisor at Solid Waste Resources.

The City will also continue to collect used batteries at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot, located at the Waste Resource Innovation Centre at 110 Dunlop Drive. For hours of operation, visit guelph.ca/wetdry. Last year a total of 8,909 kilograms of alkaline and rechargeable batteries were recycled through the HHW Depot. This initiative will increase waste diversion and is aligned with the recommendations of the Solid Waste Management Master Plan, published in 2008.
